Hello there!
I post Stuff I Do (on photoshop) like Sully here ↓↓ and stuff i like from across the internet. It all follows a design or creativity theme :)
You can ask me anything you like, tell me what you think of my work, look through my favourite re-blogs or just say hi if you like :)
Stuff I Do, Stuff I Like
just a little rant…
Things like this make me sad of what the internet has become. Social networking is an incredible tool that rarely gets used to it’s full potential. I have no issues with youngsters and fangirls being online, nor do I have a problem with them showing their appreciation for certain things. But when the power to influence and educate millions of people is replaced by fangirl hysteria it gets annoying.
I have never seen a Tumblr post with more notes, but yet there are far far far more interesting, talented, fun, unique posts out there. as for twitter, long gone have the days where trending topics were relevant, interesting news worthy and notable discussions. This example, for those not in the know, shows two members of the UK xfactor runner ups 1 Direction covering two of the top trends in the entire global twitter community, and for nothing but having a birthday.
It just annoys me. I mean, we all love a good laugh, funny gif, cute cat stuck in a stupid place or picture of a hot girl/guy, but when the sole reason for reblogging or tweeting about something is purely to fit in, to conform with a mass crowd or to simply make a stupid thing world renowned, it is ridiculous and a waste of potential.
The idea of people/bands/clips/gifs/information going viral is based upon a natural growth across social media, and having a post like “let’s make this picture the most reblogged” or the millions of twitter accounts that simply include trending topics in their statuses to show up on the feed, really shows what a waste of potential spreading through social media.
I admit that when I see a celebrity I like in the trending topics, I will click it to see what is going on. Sadly, like most, it will be with a sudden shock thought they may have suddenly died. However my frustration at social networking comes to fruition when I see trending topics such as “ZayneIsSoHotIWould”… because quite frankly, what each and every single 1 direction fan, however devoted or besotted they may be, really doesnt need to be shared with the rest of the world. We get it, you (being a 12 year old girl) loves to fantasise over boyband members, but please stop just writing things because everyone else does. It is not a competition to see who can have the most followers (for that idea, I blame certain celebrities) nor is it a competition as to who loves Zayne from 1 Direction (or any other boyband for that matter) more.
Rant over
